“O my Lord, since You seem determined that I shall be saved — and may it be Your Majesty’s pleasure that I am — and since You seem resolved to grant me as many graces as You have done, might You not have found it good — not for my gain but for Your own honor — that this habitation in which You have had to dwell for so long, should have been less greatly defiled? It distresses me, Lord, even to say this, since I know that all the blame has been mine. I do not think that You have left anything undone to make me Yours entirely, even from my youth.”
